The Lady Pack hits the track again at College Park, in the hunt for the district championship at the highly competitive district 14-5A meet. This two-day varsity meet will begin on April 14 with preliminaries and conclude on April 16 with finals.

“I expect our girls to come out ready to compete,” said Jerri Boyd, girls head track coach. “They have really been racing well the last few meets and I’m excited to see how they do when it counts.”

The meet will be the first time the district faces its newest competitors who both have strong track programs: Humble Atascocita and Humble Kingwood.

Senior hurdler/sprinter Amber Sellers is looking forward to putting forth an all out effort at the district meet and is hoping her teammates will do the same.

“We have to focus on finishing the race,” Sellers said, “just pushing through until the end.”

Being that many members of the Lady Pack just recently faced off against a high level of competition at the Texas Relays, the Lady Pack should be well prepared and confident that it can succeed and come out on top its district.

The Lady Panthers track team dominated the Bryan Invitational by racking up 144 points, 50 points ahead of second place Spring.

The girls placed first in four events, consisting of the 400-meter relay with a time of 49.5, which is a qualifying time for Texas Relays, also the 1600-meter relay, 300-meter hurdles, and the triple jump.

Olivia McKinney brought Lufkin nine points, getting 2nd in the 800 meter run and helped the 1600 meter relay girls win first.

“I am very proud of my teammates,” McKinney said. “And I am looking forward to district so  we can show everyone how much we have improved.”

Taylor Lowery helped Lufkin stay in the lead winning 26 points with her 2nd place win in the 300 meter hurdles and the 100 meter hurdles, and helping win first in the 400 meter relay.

The Lady Panther varsity track team will be getting ready for their district meet which is held in College Park April 14 and 16.

After giving the best you have and feeling proud of yourself for all the good things you have done to support your team succeed, but now it all comes to one last chance to prove and see who’s the best. This chance is going to be giving to   the Lufkin JV Track runners Thursday Apr. 9 at the New Caney District meet.

The races will be held at the where our Freshmen/Jv boys and girls will have their last race of the year to compete and become the best in district. With this in mind the coaches and the young athletes have been preparing their self for this last race where it all comes down to see who is the team that deserves to be declared a winner.

To this point the students have been giving their coaches a lot of effort to become a better team and succeed in this coming race. The Varsity boys and girls will have their chance to do the same the 15th and 17th at the Conoe meet where we are all looking forward to.

To give the best of ones self to support and help their team become the best and succeed in the most possible events, is the best a person can do. This opportunity comes to our Lufkin Track Runners Wednesday and Friday Apr. 15th/17th at the Conroe District Meet. This will be the event were everything will be decided and the best teams and athletes in individual will proceed to the regional races.
This is where all hard work and all the pains and aches during the season come down to one race to see who’s  the best. We all look forward to this event and are very exited to participate and succeed.

After a 60 minute delay due to storms in the area, the Lufkin Panthers took first place at last Friday’s Willie Ross Relays at Abe Martin Stadium. Following the Field Events cancellations, the final track events were bumped up to 3:00 p.m. leaving no effect on the runners as The Pack raced off to a fast start with a 42.89 time in the 400-meter relay, by their 4×4 Relay Team, setting the tone for the rest of the runners throughout the day.
