Camille Cox a 14-year-old sophomore on the Lufkin Varsity volleyball team and is not afraid of showing fierce in her games on game night. She has been playing since the sixth grade and was inspired by her mother and sister to begin playing.

“My mom played volleyball, and my sister did in high school,” Cox said. “I always saw my sister out there practicing so I played with her and began to really like it. I played for the first time on a club team in the sixth grade.”

Cox said hopes to be playing the game for many years, and maybe for a living.

“I can see myself playing this in the future because I love volleyball and really have a passion to play it”, Cox said.

As a sophomore and in her second year on a varsity team, most people would think the older girls would see Cox as a threat, but Cox says other wise.

“I don’t know that the other girls see me as a threat on the team,” she said. “I am friends with most of them, but I guess freshman and sophomores from other schools could because when they’re on varsity, I would have already been playing at that level for about three years.”

When Cox is on that court, she is all serious mode and focuses on what she has to do and shows all those fans that even though she is an underclassman on varsity, she can still play at their level.

“I feel that I always have to give over 100 percent to prove that even though I’m an underclassman on varsity, I can still play on their level,” Cox said.

As a younger girl on a higher level skilled team, Cox says she feels more like a role model.

“I feel like a role model to my younger siblings because it shows them that no matter how young you are, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to,” Cox said.

Cox plans on winning as many district games as the team can, and just mainly improving on all of her skills as much as possible before she graduates.
