Chili Bowl Supper slated for Thursday

The Lufkin high school Alumni Association is going into their 5th Annual Chili Bowl Supper to raise money for scholarships for high school seniors. The Association will be serving chili 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 28 in the LHS cafeteria.

“To Go” orders will start at 4 p.m for teachers and staff to pick up. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the door or from any LHSAA board member. This will launch the 25th year celebration for the Alumni Association which started in 1985.

Janice Ann Rowe,  director of LHSAA relations, said that the association has given 1,210 scholarships with a monetary value of $1,615,865.

“Last year we gave $100,000 in scholarships, and where hoping to give at least that much this year,” she said. “This has made LHS the largest high school alumni association with the endowment fund reaching $2.6 million.”
