Year Of The Black Rainbow By Coheed and Cambria

This newest release by an astonishing band does not disappoint. Perhaps it is the direction that the band shifted or a harder hitting sound, but this album is more concise than any other previously released.

Year Of The Black Rainbow is a prequel to all other Coheed and Cambria albums. This album picks up  where the book fell in the Amory Wars series upon which all five albums are based. The books, written by lead singer Claudio Sanchez, depicts a great tale of love, war, and death.
The composition of the album is well balanced and still manages to stretch the limits on which most people put the band. Coheed and Cambria took a more electronic and heavier tone this time around than on their last album. The band stuck to their familiar concept format but their lyrical content and melodic differences make this album stand out.

There are not any tracks that jump out and grab you like “Welcome Home” from Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness but notable songs include, Here we are juggernaut, Far, The Broken, and This Shattered Symphony.

All in all, it was a great album with great songs worth listening to.

Rating:  9/10
