The high school and middle school bands will join forces Saturday, November 8 as part of the annual Honor America Night to honor fallen and current soldiers.
“The tickets are $5, and can be purchased from any band student or in the cafeteria at Lufkin High School on November 7.
The event begins at 4:30 p.m with a hot dog and apple pie dinner in the Lufkin High School cafeteria.
“The apple pie is the best ever,” sophomore Panther band member Dezmond Scott said.
The program, which includes the Lufkin High School Marching Band’s award winning performance, will begin at 6:30 p.m at Abe Martin Stadium.
“This was a very complicated drill to learn,” Band Director Scott Williams said. “But these are some great students and they took on the responsibility to learn their parts and earned straight first division awards at marching contest.”
A select few of the seniors from the Panther Band have been chosen to give a short presentation of all United States Military service branches, including the US Army, the US Navy, the US Air Force, and the US Marines.
But the Panther Band isn’t the only band that will have their chance to honor America’s heroes. The event will also include a performance and marching routine from the middle school band.
“The middle school band has been working hard,” senior Darryl Mask said.
According to Williams, the performance will consist of the two bands joining together to play an array of hymns from the Armed Forces as fireworks light up the sky over a football field adorned with a massive American flag held by the Majorettes.
“You are guaranteed to enjoy yourself [at this performance],” Panther Band Secretary Tina said. “It has been known to bring tears of [joy] to many people.”
