Lufkin High School takes home four first place slots out of five science fair events. In the Eggonaut Rocket event Honorable Mention went to two freshman, Nohema Mendoza and Sophia Humphreys, and two juniors were named Judge’s Choice, Anna Perkins and Will Griffin.

Lufkin dominated in the Eggonaut Rocket event. Freshman Mollie Taylor and Shane Rowley also took first.

“I feel that Shane and I handled our project very well,” Taylor said. “We worked hard on the rocket and we were very excited when we won first.”

Freshman Alex Dupre took part on the Life Science event, in which she had to construct a tri-fold and do research over which color dogs could see the best. Dupre gained new knowledge by working on her Science Fair project.

“I had to accomplish a valid test and presentation of my project to the judge,” Dupre said. “I completed my goal by working hard and staying focused. I really enjoyed working with the science behind my project and learning something new.”

Seniors Andy Ramirez and John David Kirby came out on top right before graduation. These two have overcome “senioritis” and accomplished their tasks in the Rube Goldberg event. According to Ramirez, taking first in a Science Fair event can assist in spicing up resumes and applications.

“Winning first in the Rube Goldberg made my teammate and I both proud and shocked,” Ramirez said. “This event has given us more career options and we have learned that if you set your mind to something, you can do it.”
