The highest bid of $6,000 at the Angelina County Youth Fair went to freshman Kaylee Sullivan for her Grand Champion Steer.
“I raised the steer since the beginning of the year and worked on it two hours a day,” Sullivan said. “I had to feed it, walk it, wash it and everything else in order to get it ready for the show.”
And with the money she earned, Sullivan is planning to purchase another steer.
“Most of the money I earned will go to funding, which will pay for next year’s steer and to cover the cost of this year’s steer,” Sullivan said. “The rest will go in a fund for college.”
Another winner at the Youth Fair is senior Chris Walker who sold his photograph to Perry Williams for $500.
“I took the photo with a Canon Rebel XTi, and it was of an old farmhouse with haystacks,” Walker said. “The only major change I made to the photograph in Photoshop is that I added a sepia tone to the background.”
With the money, Walker said he is going to try to buy himself a camera.
“I want to buy a Canon EOS 50D,” Walker said. “It is a good camera with 15.2 mega pixels and an ISO of up to 3200.”
Senior Anna Cravy, who won first place in frosted cakes, was able to make $450 off her rockin’ chocolate s’mores cake.
“The cake was bought by Brookshire Brothers and is four recipes in one,” Windham said. “It had pink and zebra tiers along with stars at the top.”
According to Windham, the money she earned will go to rent for an apartment or to buy a car.
“If I get a car than I want to save up for rent so I can move in with a friend,” Windham said. “If I do not get a car, than I am going to save up for one.”
