On the east side of the school, construction of an auditorium is underway and the construction should be finished by December of next year.
“The utilities and site work have already been done when the school was originally built,” superintendent Roy Knight said. “An auditorium was in the original design but we ran out of money.”
But constructing an auditorium now will cost $8,500,000, compared to around $3,000,000 if it would have been built along with the school.
“Auditoriums are expensive to build but there is a need that has to met,” Knight said. “And this time we budgeted our money wisely so everything will be completed without running out of money.”
When the auditorium is finished, it will have 850 seats, risers for the choir, and an elevator to the control room in the back.
“We had to make our auditorium handicap accessible so most things are ground level,” Knight said. “We wanted to make sure any future needs students might have for the auditorium were met now instead of later.”
Other than the auditorium itself, the new building also includes additional rooms.
“We have the extra classrooms for growth along with rooms that meet the needs of the Fine Art’s department,” Knight said. “We also have a workshop to build the set, costume rooms, and separate changing rooms.”
Along with the additional rooms, more security cameras will be added an another security room will be added to insure student safety.
