Are you ready for some football?
Powder puff football to be exact.

More than 60 girls are playing in the annual powder puff game, where the girls take the place of the boys on the field.  There will be two teams–The Pink Puffs and the Powder Blues, which are coached by some of the senior varsity football players.

Varsity cheerleader Porsha Jones said she is looking forward to the game because the rolls are reversed as the girls play and the guys cheer.

“I am really excited about playing football because going to all the games as cheerleader cheering the Panthers on,” she said. “I always wanted to play football, and now that I get a chance to play against some of my friends and classmates, I am very excited to play.”

All-American JuMarkus McFarland will be one of the coaches for The Pink Puffs also said he likes taking on a different roll at a football game.

“Yes I am because I love football and girls, and to coach them it makes it even better,”   McFarland said. “I am really hoping my team gets a “W” but it will give us coaches a great chance to bond with female classmates who will be playing.”

The game will be kick-off at 5 p.m., April 23 at Abe Martin Stadium. Tickets are $3 with proceeds going to help fund Project Celebration.
