For many people the sport of Cross Country consist of heavy running, but to others it’s something that they can feel proud of.

Jerri Boyd, coach of the LHS Cross Country team, said she is proud of the things her teams, Junior Varsity and Varsity, have accomplished.

“I am very proud of what they have done,” Boyd said. “We have made it a long way as a team.”

Every team has to work together in order to accomplish their goals.

“They all try and motivate each other to do their best,” Boyd said.

According to Boyd, they made it to District and then have one more meet on November 14 to attend before their season is over.

“Overall, I am satisfied with the work the team has done,” Boyd said. “All the hard work was done by the runners.”

Junior Luis Terral has been running Cross Country for three years, and even though at times the workouts can be difficult, he said they are all worth it.

“Sometimes we run three miles a day,” Terral said. “Our legs are shaking afterwards, but at the end when it comes down to us running at a meet, it pays off.”

Terral does admit, however, that the hours he has to put into practice aren’t always pleasant.

“It is crazy,” Terral said. “There are times when I have to wake up really early just to come to practice or go to a meet.”

The team does not just run the whole period, though. They also participate in various workouts.

“There are times when we have to do long runs, speed workouts, lift weights, and do abdominal workouts,” Terral said. “But the coaches and other runners are supportive and help motivate me.”

But Terral said he plans on accomplishing more than just getting through his workouts.

“I guess you can say I have high hopes for myself,” Terral said. “I see myself running in the Olympics. I am going to get there by training and staying out of trouble.”
