Coming off of a 16-13 record, the girls varsity basketball team and the head coach feel pretty good about the upcoming season.
“I feel extremely exited,” senior guard Brittney Maxey said. “Plus, it is my senior year and I feel that it’s going to be great.”
Given that the team has lost once player since last year, returning are four of the five starters, two sophomores and two seniors, which leaves a spot open.
“Since we know each other, we have built chemistry between us that brought us closer together,” Center Brittney Moreland said. “Plus, the running in practice and play calls has been working for us. That has made us stay in shape and be ready for the season.”
According to Head Coach Simmions, the team should be able to accomplish great things this season.
“This years’ team should be able to make the playoffs, learn, and improve,” Simmions said.
The team ended the season last year with a 16-13 record and was 1 game shy of making the playoffs, which now seems like a very possible goal for the team. The outlook on possibly making district is still up in the air, but they stand a reasonable chance if they work hard enough.
“College Park is the team to look out for because they are returning almost all their players from last year, who have been on varsity since their freshman year,” Simmions said.
The Lady Pack will start their season this Monday, November 10, in Longview at 7:30. However, they will return home November 14 to host John Tyler starting at 7:30 at the LMS Panther Gym. So come out to cheer on the Lady Pack basketball team and bring a few friends!
