The Lady Panthers started district off strong beating their first opponent, the New Caney Eagles, 6-0.
Lufkin’s Madison Bartlett scored the first goal 15 minutes into the first half to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
The score resided at 1-0 until the last 8 minutes of the first half when Christa Robinson drove the ball down the field past two defenders and sent a shot in making the score 2-0. Within the next three minutes, Crystal Zamora was able to put the ball in the left corner of the net to end the first half with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Robinson managed to score two more goals, one of which resulted from a penalty kick. Just 4 minutes before the referee sounded the whistle signifying the games conclusion, Kendall King maintained control of the ball and fired a shot in the goal to end the game with a score of 6-0.
According to the girls varsity coach Antonio Encarnacion, in the beginning of the game, the Lady Panthers had many shots on goal that were deflected.
“For a while their keeper was keeping them in the game with some great saves,” he said. “But the girls were patient and just kept playing their game. It paid off in the end.”
The Lady Panthers were more than able to beat their first opponents in district and for Coach Encarnacion, having a good start district play.
“Now we want to build on this game,” Encarnacion said about the upcoming district games.
The Lady Panthers will be back on the field Tuesday to play their second district game against Conroe.
