After a rough game on Monday against College Park, the Lady Panthers barely escaped a third consecutive loss, this one to the Lady Cavaliers, 4-3 in overtime.

The Lady Panthers came out strong when forward Kendall King scored a wide shot in the first 6 minutes of the game. It was not much longer until Lufkin received a corner kick that they would take advantage of, allowing defender Caitlin George to put the ball high into the net to end the first half in the favor of the Panthers with a score of 2-0.

The second half started out with rough play, leaving the referee to make many calls for fouls resulting in free kicks.

Half way through the second half, College Park managed to pass the ball to a center midfielder wide open just outside of the box who shot and scored to leave the Cavaliers trailing 2-1.

During the rest of the second half, the Cavaliers sent a shot in that slipped through goalkeeper Katie Kimmey’s hands to tie up the game. Not even a minute later Lufkin’s Crystal Zamora lobbed a shot in putting the Panthers ahead 3-2.

Both teams battled until the last three minutes of the game when College Park was able to score their third goal to tie up the game.

After a score of 3-3, the game went into overtime play where the it stayed tied until the last few minutes of the second overtime. In the last minute and a half the Lady Cavaliers received a penalty kick that would end the game with a score of 4-3.

The following day the Lady Panthers traveled to the Woodlands to play their fourth district game.

After a long night, forward for the Panthers, Darcy Jackson, managed to put one ball in the net; however, the Lady Highlanders came out on top with a score of 9-1.

According to team captain Kendall King,  the team has to move on and focus on the upcoming games.

“We can’t dwell on past games for too long,” she said. “We have to learn from our mistakes and get ready to win our next games.”

The Panthers will be back in action on Friday at their home field to play Oak Ridge.
