On Friday night the Lady Panther soccer team improved their record to a 9-1-1 when they shut out Jacksonville for the second time this season.

Although the Panthers came out with a strong lead (5-0) the first game they were not planning on underestimating Jacksonville for their second game.

“We knew we had beat Jacksonville and shut them out the last time we played them,” said Caitlin George, senior starting defender for the Panthers. “But we knew we couldn’t let up on our game and that Jacksonville would probably be coming out strong, so we played the game with as much intensity as any other game and we played as if we had never played them before.”
During the first half, Christa Robinson scored to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead at half time. In the second half Lufkin’s Kendall King and Amanda Rosales put in two more goals to finish the game off with a 3-0 win.
“I thought we finished well tonight,” head coach Encarnacion said. “Their goalkeeper made some great saves or we could have had a few more goals.”
Lufkin’s next game will be against Robert E. Lee Tuesday.
“Tyler Lee is a good team and it should be a good game,” said Robinson, senior starting forward and lead scorer on varsity the last three years. “This will be a good game to prepare us for the district games coming up this week.”
