The Lady Panther Softball team starts district play against The New Caney Eagles Friday night.
The Lady Pack started off the season with red-hot posting 9-2-1 in pre-district and beating A&M Consolidated, the number 6th team in state, 2-0. But after a rocky weekend, losing four out of the last five games during the Brenham Tournament, they now stand at a respectable 10-6-1 record.

Pitcher, Starla Deponte simply said, “we just played horrible.”

Last year, the Lady Panthers did not win a single district game going 0-10, struggling to find their way to finish games losing by an average of four points per game.

“It was really hard knowing we had a chance to win every game, just to come up short a few runs,” said junior third baseman Valencia Bennett.

To make the play-offs the Lady Panthers will need to be one of the top four teams in district play, going through the likes of a tough Woodlands squad, College Park, Conroe, Oak Ridge, and a New Caney squad. Playing each team three times, the Lady Pack are looking to beat up on a weak New Caney team.

“If we can play like we did against A&M Consolidated every game, then our chances at the play-offs are high and  winning one District game will change everything,” said Bennett.

Not only are the Lady Pack looking to change their record, they are also looking to change their attitudes as well.

“To succeed in District, we need to better our attitudes. If thats changes then we’ll be in great shape,” said senior first baseman Holly Hawkins.
