The Lufkin Panthers baseball team is preparing for district play which begins March 17 against New Caney at Morris Frank Park.
Both the players expectations and the coaches expectations for district are high. Head coach Clay Berry said, “We hope to win district and go far in the playoffs.”
Winning the district championship will not be an easy task for the Panthers, especially with state powerhouse The Woodlands in the same district, who have won the district championship four years in a row.
As far as the players expectations go, pitcher Chase Greening said, “My expectations are to win district and continue to work hard and try our best to make a long run in the playoffs.”
Outfielder Seth Thompson echoed what Greening had to say by saying, “My expectations for the team this year are to win district because the polls have us ranked No. 2 behind The Woodlands so we think we can be No. 1 in district and the playoffs.”
The Panthers record this season stands at 9-3.
