As they say in sports, “Let’s wait until next year.”  Well that cliche became true today for the Pete Runnels Shootout, which was canceled today because of the rain, this according to the Lufkin Daily News.

The tournament was supposed to start yesterday, but because of the rain, all games yesterday were canceled.  Because of the rain today, the tournament was canceled, because it would have been too wet.

Lufkin head coach was optimistic that the tournament could be played this weekend, saying in an article in the Lufkin Daily News today, “The grass is still pretty firm  and we’d have to get the grass dry.  We’re hoping we can get started Friday if the rain would let up.”

The teams other than Lufkin that were supposed to play in the Pete Runnels Shootout were Hudson, former district rival Tyler Lee, Houston Westside, Houston Memorial, Ft. Worth Brewer, Klein Oak, who was a late addition to the tournament, annual participant Port-Neches Groves, and Shreveport Evangel.  According the Lufkin Daily News, Houston Westside and Dallas White decided not to travel due to the weather.
