Boys soccer team hosts Panther Showcase

After competing in the Klein Night of Champions Tournament and the Longview Lobo Invitational, the Lufkin boys varsity soccer team is prepared for tournament Lufkin Panther Showcase, which will be held at their home fields, Jase Majors and Abe Martin Stadium January 21-23. The tournament will consist of 15 games that will be played in a 3-day time period.
“We have a pretty good line up” said Russel Shaw, Lufkin varsity head coach. “The tournament will include lots of great teams which means every game is going to be pretty competitive and we expect every team we face up to play decent.”
The Panthers have come a long way from the start of the season entering the tournament with a 5-3-0 record.
“We have had some ups and downs, causing simple mistakes that have caused the loss of games in the past tournaments, but it helps us become stronger and more mentally prepared,” varsity captain Daniel Aguiñaga said.
He said he is very proud of the team and that they have all worked together pushing each other in and out of the field, and now the team is almost at the top of their game.
“This tournament will help us a lot to make one last stride and be ready to accomplish anything the team sets their minds to,” he said.
The Panthers will be kicking off their first game of the tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday competing against Klein before they face off against their long time rival Nacogdoches at 8 p.m.on Friday. The Panthers will finish off the showcase at 3 p.m. with a game against Beaumont West Brook Saturday.

Friday: Jase Magers: Klein Oak vs. John Tyler, 4 p.m.; Klein vs. A&M Consolidated, 6 p.m.; Nacogdoches vs. Lufkin, 8 p.m.. Abe Martin: Jacksonville vs. Willis, 6 p.m.; Beaumont West Brook vs. Huntsville, 8 p.m.
Saturday: Jase Magers: Willis vs. Klein Oak, 11 a.m.; Huntsville vs. Nacogdoches, 1 p.m.; Lufkin vs. Beaumont West Brook, 3 p.m. Abe Martin: John Tyler vs. Klein, 11 a.m.; A&M Consolidated vs. Jacksonville, 1 p.m.
