Despite coming in at second place behind a strong Woodlands team, the Lady Pack managed to set a school record in the Mile Relay with a time of 3:53.74.
Lufkin’s Amber Sellers, who played a part in the record setting performance her freshman year, was once again a part of a record breaking squad.
“Everyone had to run their part, not one person could slack,” Sellers said. “We were all focused and did exactly what was expected of us.”
Sellers also credited the “extra rush” to the high expectations the team was held to by its coaches.
Future University of Texas defensive back Carrington Byndom helped the Mile Relay team finish strong after falling behind in the middle of the race.
Upcoming freshman trackstar for Lufkin Chris Durham showed off his athletic ability at the district meet finishing the 400 meter dash in second place.
“My eighth grade year Coach Earley helped me a lot because he ran the 400 when he was in school,” Durham said. “It feels good.”
In all, Lufkin High will flood the regional track meet with a sea of purple pride with the majority of both the boy’s and girl’s track team making the big trip.
The two-day regional meet is to take place at Baylor University on April 26-28.
