Senior Kelley Chance’s art took first place in the Red Ribbon Billboard contest.
Chance first learned about the contest from a poster that was hung on the wall in the art wing at school.
“Mrs. Davis put a poster up in the art wing and kept reminding and encouraging me to enter,” he said.
The billboard contest included both high school and college students from the area. Chance’s inspiration for his art developed from his strong feelings about the subject of the contest.
“I felt like I should make an impact on the youth,” he said.
Chance was excited when he heard his art won first place.
“I’ve never won anything in my life,” he said, “so winning something felt good, especially something I want to do for a living.”
Chance will be graduating early this year to pursue his education in art at the Art Institute of Houston, where he will continue to achieve his bachelors degree in graphic design.
Chance’s art will soon be on a billboard in the area.
